WALTER DAWSON

December 6, 2011

WALTER EDWARD DAWSON Warrant Officer, RCAF (Retired) Peacefully, after a six year battle with Alzheimer’s, Walt passed away at the Riverview Health Centre, Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the age of 81 years. Left to forever cherish Walt’s memory is his son Brian; daughter-in-law Brigitte; grand-children, Elise (Taylor Burgess) and Bennett; and nieces and nephews in Hamilton. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Simone; daughter Susan; and all of his siblings: Audrey Armstrong, John Dawson, Joyce Randall and Joan Heinrichs. Walt was proud of his career as an aircraft technician in the Air Force. He enlisted in 1951, and served until 1978, after which he finished his working life as a technical inspector with DND. Walt served at various bases in Eastern Canada, as well as Scotland and Germany. His final posting was to Winnipeg, where he retired with his wife Simone, and enjoyed a decade of snow birding to Harlingen, Texas. In his early years, he showed great talent as an artist in both painting and woodworking. Walt liked nice cars, keeping himself spit and polished and hanging out with his coffee buddies at the old Unicity Mall. In compliance with Walt’s wishes, no service will be held. A private family interment will take place in the spring. We extend our thanks to the staff at Riverview A-1, and caregiver Cindy, who tended to Walt’s needs with compassion and understanding over the past year. To his friends and neighbours, who showed him much patience and kindness through the early years of his disease, we so appreciated all your efforts, and will remember you always. Peace be with you.   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on December 10, 2011
