WILLIAM EARLE CANDAELE

December 12, 1932 – December 30, 2018

With deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Bill Candaele.

Bill is survived by his wife Marilyn of 57 years; son Neil (Nada); daughter Janice (Steve); and grandchildren Ava, Tonette, Colin, and Lauren. He is also survived by his brother Marcel Candaele of Fergus, ON.  Bill was predeceased by parents William (1955) and Alice (1975), and sister-in-law Sharon (2011).

An electrician by trade, Bill worked for contractors in Winnipeg, Churchill and Esterhazy building service stations, hydro dams and mines. In 1963 he joined the maintenance department of Winnipeg School Division #1, retiring as Electrical Foreman in 1995. He was proud to have worked (at that time) in all 88 schools and service buildings.

Cottage life was important to Bill and a big part of his family life. There was the cabin at Beaver Creek on Lake Winnipeg (9 years), followed by one at Betula Lake in the Whiteshell (22 years). There was always a project or renovation on the go until the day ended at “Happy Hour” with neighbors or friends, casting a line off the dock, or going for a boat ride around the lake.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His retirement was filled with his grandkid’s school and sporting events, wintering in Palm Springs, CA or Mesa, AZ and visiting daughter Janice and her family in Arlington, Texas. He could be counted upon for sage advice when it came to home repairs and raising kids. He was always concerned with our well being and we know he is still watching over all of us.

We wish to thank Cancercare Manitoba where he was treated wonderfully for over 10 years, and by the excellent palliative nurses and staff of Grace Hospice.

As per Bill’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family interment will occur at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grace Hospice, 260 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3R5.
