WILFRED LORENZ ZELT This morning, Saturday, May 5, 2012 Wilfred’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 59 Academy Road at Wellington Crescent with Rev. Ward Yunker, presider. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to the Service in Church. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue.Publish Date: May 5, 2012WILFRED LORENZ ZELT February 26, 1916 – April 28, 2012 Sadly, the family of Wilfred Zelt announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Victoria Hospital, at the age of 96 years. Wilfred is now in the care of his Lord and Saviour and reunited with his beloved wife Marguerite, who predeceased him in 1993 after 56 years of marriage. Left to forever cherish Wilfred’s memory are his daughter Dianne Frank; son-in-law Ken; daughter-in-law Linda (Hanner) Zelt; granddaughter Catherine Frank; great-granddaughter Aurora Norrie; grandsons Brian Frank (Keiley Abbat) and Greg Frank; brothers Gordon (Eileen) Zelt, Harold (Jo Ann) Zelt; sister Lorraine (Ron) MacLeod, and Hilda Ganz, Amanda Lechelt, Larry Lechelt (Kathy); as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Dennis in 2010, and his cousin (brother) Alfred Lechelt. Wilfred was an expert in the grain business for over 50 years. He started as a helper in the elevator at Nisku, AB and then worked for Midland Pacific Grain in several cities in Western Canada for 15 years. He joined Robin Hood Flour Mills in Moose Jaw, SK, then moving to Minneapolis and Duluth, MN, returning to Canada to Winnipeg, MB, where he retired in 1981 as Canadian Grain Manager, after 35 years of service. Since 1957 Wilfred has been a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, actively involved in all affairs of the congregation. He spent his retirement years travelling to destinations such as Disney World, Barbados, Arizona, Toronto, Vancouver, Germany and California. The arrival of his great-granddaughter Aurora was a major event in his life. Wilfred and Marguerite enjoyed square dancing and playing bridge. During his retirement he made many new friends through his McDonald’s coffee group and the social club at Appleton Estates. He especially enjoyed playing bridge and Cribbage with friends and family. For the past 19 months he resided at Seine River Retirement Residence where he made new friends and participated in social activities as health permitted. On Saturday, May 5, 2012 Wilfred’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 59 Academy Road at Wellington Crescent with Rev. Ward Yunker, presider. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to the Service in Church. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. Honorary pallbearers are Alice Pyle, Dr. Oscar Domke, Harold Zelt, Gordon Zelt, Lorraine MacLeod, Ken Frank, David Seifert, and John Wiens. Active pallbearers are Brian and Greg Frank, Steve Hanner, Larry Lechelt, Dave Sachvie and Derrick Sachvie. The family would like to thank all the staff at Seine River for their care and support; the W.R.H.A. Home Care staff, (special thanks to Adora, Tara, Don, Kurt and Kathy M-F for their compassionate care); Doctors Oscar and Sheila Domke for their years of care and friendship, Steve and Pat Hanner, Trudy and Gordon Sachvie for your love, support, friendship and caring for Wilfred. We are so grateful to Pastor Jim Scholz for his spiritual guidance and friendship to our family over the past 20 years and all our church family, friends and relatives who always kept us in your thoughts and prayers.
