THEOPHILE WARRIAN

March 19, 2012

THEOPHILE WARRIAN It is with sadness that the family of Theophile (Theo) Warrian announces her death, after a brief illness, on Monday, March 19, 2012, at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 94 years. She is survived by Dr. Garnet and Rita Warrian (Dauphin), Dr. Garnet Warrian, Jr. and Despina Tsourpis (Vancouver), Deirdre Warrian and Shayne, Madison and Thomas Montpetit (Dauphin); Dr. Keith and Lauran Warrian (Winnipeg), Allison Warrian and Sonny Leader (Winnipeg), Dr. Kevin Warrian and Hsiu-Yan Chan (London, ON); Betty and Dr. Jim Harrow (Alexander City, AL), Aynsley Harrow and Eric Mull (Atlanta, GA); sisters-in-law, Mary (Joe), Pearl (Adolphe) and Josie (Vincent) Werbicki and Liliah Wager (Edmonton); and many nieces and nephews. Theo was born on February 9, 1918, to Felix and Catherine Werbicki, in Sifton, Manitoba, near Dauphin. She married Garnet Warrian in 1940. They had three children; Garnet, Keith and Betty. Born at a time and in circumstances that prevented her from attending university, she dreamed of sending her children there – schoolwork always came before anything else. She was rewarded by seeing both of her sons graduate from Medicine and her daughter from Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba. She also set a high standard for herself and brought a fine intelligence, excellent memory and strict self-discipline to becoming a great cook, seamstress, knitter and gardener. An avid card player, she liked nothing better than playing cribbage, bridge or canasta with family and friends. Being an active member of the Dauphin United Church Women gave Theo an opportunity to make many friends and utilize her baking skills. She loved being with her family and made many trips to Alabama, British Columbia, Ontario and Winnipeg to visit children and grandchildren. Theo was predeceased by her husband, Garnet in 1988; by brothers, Walter (Dauphin), Joe (St. Catharine’s, ON), Adolphe (Dauphin), Vincent (Mississauga, ON) and Albert (Dauphin); sister, Lil Korpan (Dauphin); sister-in-law Bunny Werbicki (Walter); brother-in-law Mike Korpan (Lil), nephew Dennis Werbicki and niece Debbie Werbicki. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. Our family wishes to thank Dr. Jason Scott, Dr. Johan Rauch and the staff at the Dauphin Hospital, and Dr. Clifford Yaffe, his surgical team and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, for the excellent care mother received during her illness. A special thank-you goes to the staff and residents of Lorray Manor in Dauphin, for their friendship, kindness, and support – and all the many card games. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Theo’s memory to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Heart and Stroke Building, Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on March 24, 2012
