STEPHEN EVERETT GARLAND

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stephen Everett Garland on April 21st, 2025 at the age of 76. After a long battle with illness, Steve is now at peace.

Steve is survived by his devoted wife Donna, daughter Cally Essery, son in law Shawn Essery, grandchildren Nicholas Garland, Shailee Cheadle, Maya Essery and Christopher Essery and three great-granddaughters: brothers Stewart Garland (Cathy), Bruce Garland, Ed Garland and sisters Judy Garland (Al) and Gwen Goguen (Colin McElrea); Sisters-in-law Kim Bartlett and Shannon Zelmer (Darren) and brothers-in-law Murray Robinson, Dwight Lavineway (Sharon) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by mother Yvonne (Bonnie) Garland and father Everett Garland, sisters-in-law Debbie Britton, Dawn Robinson, and Terry Garland and brothers-in-law Ian Bartlett and Dennis Lavineway.

Steve was a beloved figure of Argyle Manitoba for many years. Although Steve was a very quiet man, those who knew him knew how generous and giving he was. Always there to help a friend or loved one, expecting nothing in return. You could always count on Steve to be there, no questions asked.

Steve spent over 28 years as a correctional officer at Stony Mountain Penitentiary. In retirement you could find him at Ben’s pouring coffee, running errands for community members or on his Honda Goldwing with the wind blowing his long silver hair. You will be sadly missed Steve.

A private family service will held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Lung Association.
