SHIRLEY MAY BEAULIEU

(NEE IVERSON)

1929 ~ 2020

With overwhelming sadness, the family of Shirley Beaulieu announce her passing on Friday, February 28, 2020 at the age of 90 years. Shirley left peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mom was a unique woman, during her first pregnancy, Shirley found out that she was RH negative. She was the first woman in Winnipeg to have an intra-uterine transfusion. While her baby did not survive, this did provide her with the opportunity to help doctors pioneer intra-uterine transfusion procedures. In the following years she donated her plasma every Wednesday evening to the Red Cross. This contributed to the success in saving the lives of other babies affected by RH disease.

Shirley was employed at the Sears in Polo Park in the buying office where she made and kept many friends.

Mom was a very strong independent woman who took great pride in a clean home “including sweeping out the vacuum lines” and her beautiful flower garden. Her garden was the birthplace of many monarch butterflies and everyday she would go outside and check the progress of each caterpillar and chrysalis. She loved to post pictures on Facebook of their progress.

Shirley raised five children on her own and we were her greatest pride. She was an amazing Mom, whose love was shown through her warm tight hugs and I love you’s.

Many of her later years were spent travelling with her husband Barney, enjoying trips to Arizona, Mexico and throughout the United States, where they made many friends.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Barney, her son Warren (Faye), daughters Wendy (Jeff), Penny (Dennis) and Cindy (Paul). Barney’s daughters Tammy (Dave) and Charmaine (Dean) as well as Shirley’s brother Raymond (Rae) Iverson her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Shirley was predeceased by her infant son Freddy, son Kim, our father Wes Alguire, second husband Ron Brigden, parents Russell and Elsie Iverson and her siblings Sonny, Darlene, Gail and Dorothy.

Honoring Mom’s wishes, relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of her Life on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Ness Baptist Church, 2700 Ness Avenue at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Brennan presiding. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Program at the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. Or visit the Red Cross and give the Gift of Life.
