RUTH MACKENZIE

April 29, 2012

RUTH MARGARET MACKENZIE (nee MCMILLAN) October 24, 1920 – April 29, 2012 It is with a tear in our eyes that we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of our dearest mother, Ruth Margaret MacKenzie on Sunday, April 29, 2012. With family at her side, Mom leaves to mourn her children, son Gordon (Wendy) and daughter Susan Stone (Murray); treasured grandchildren, Andrew (Kelly), Erin (Ian), Kathryn (Tyler), and Jane; adored great-grandchildren, Aiden, MacKenzie, Myla, Owen and Benjamin; as well as by her beloved sister Betty O’Connor; brother-in-law Helmut Thiessen. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Andrew (2003) who were inseparable for 60 years of happiness; parents Margaret and John McMillan; sisters Eileen Horsfall and Marilyn Thiessen; brothers-in-law Ben Horsfall and Harold O’Connor; sisters-in-law Mary McKay, Anne Smythe, Margaret Dickie; and brother-in-law Hugh MacKenzie. Mom was always so proud to be one of the McMillan sisters from Noble Avenue in Elmwood and even though times were difficult, they were rich in neighbours, friends and good times. From the Mother she adored and respected, she inherited the love for sewing, handwork and the pride of having a home. Her heart was always filled with thanksgiving and contentment at being blessed with what was her utmost desire and career – a family. Mom was simply the best, always there for teaching each and every one of us, giving strength and hope, encouraging us to achieve, comforting our souls, but best of all having a cup full of constant love. We are the ones who are most blessed, being guided through life by parents with gentle souls, soft hearts and an open hand, leaving us with the most precious of memories. Never one to complain but always one to worry about others, Mom devoted her life to all of us. We will be forever grateful for her always being there, and though she will be dearly missed, we will keep her safe in our hearts. At Mom’s request, there will be a private family Service. Special thanks to Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence for making Mom’s last five years so comfortable. In lieu of flowers, donations if desired may be made to a charity of your choice. Goodbye Goodbye my family, my life has passed I love you all to the very last Weep not for me , but courage take Love each other for my sake For those you love do not go away They walk beside you everyday Love Mom XOXOXO   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on May 05, 2012
