RUTH ELEANOR MCRAE

(nee FOSSAY)

With great sadness we announce the passing of Ruth Eleanor McRae (nee Fossay) of Winnipeg, formerly of Grandview, MB. Mom passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at the Victoria General Hospital, at the age of 89 years, due to natural causes.

Ruth is survived by her children Marlene (Raymond) Kostiuk, Benito, Sandy (Lyle) Fisher, Grandview, Ron (Jo-Anne) McRae, RM Cartier; Pam (Terry) Stead, Musgravetown, NL, Pat Petrie, Winnipeg. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Bev Fossay, Starbuck; 13 grandchildren,13 great grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Forbes, of 57 years back in 2010.

Mom was born on April 27, 1931, on her parents’ (Edward and Martha Fossay), family farm near Starbuck, MB. She attended Elm Bank and Starbuck Schools before moving to Winnipeg and was very proud of her employment as a secretary with Duff Roblin. She met the love of her life, the handsome Hydro Man, who came to the family farm on a service call and they soon married in 1953. They lived in Gretna, MB before taking up residence in Grandview, MB in 1959. Raising a family in small town Grandview, Mom and Dad were big supporters of all aspects of their community. They built the Park View Motel in 1972 and enjoyed meeting and making many friends.  Mom and Dad’s retirement years took them to Arizona, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Alaska, and coast to coast in Canada and the USA.

Mom was very community minded with curling, majorettes, band, and the United Church Ladies, as well as her love of sewing, knitting and gardening. She left her beloved Grandview shortly after Dad’s death and enjoyed her new residence at Sterling House, Winnipeg, MB. She had many memories of her friends in Grandview, at the coffee shop and her newfound friends in Winnipeg. In Mom’s words – she lived a Princess’s life and a great life it was. A note from the family – Mom always set a lovely example of being gracious and we all strived to follow that example.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held later. A Special thank you to the doctors, nurses and health care aides at Victoria General Hospital and to the staff at Sterling House.

If you so wish, memorial gifts may be made to the Grandview & District Community Foundation Inc., Box 238, Grandview, MB R0L 0Y0
