ROSEMARY MACKIE

After a lengthy illness, Rosemary Mackie passed peacefully at the age of 95 years in Winnipeg. She is survived by her children: Fiona (Winnipeg), Ailsa (Langley BC), and Callum (Tacy, East Selkirk); her sisters: Margaret (New Zealand) and Evelyn (Scotland); her niece Valerie (New Zealand); grandchildren: Steven, Jason, Amanda, Kristin, Lindsay, Kelsey, Tracy, Cassandra, and Matt; and many great grandchildren.

Rosemary was born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 30, 1926. She was evacuated to the countryside with her sisters at the start of the Second World War. She returned to the city at 16 and worked as a wages clerk at the National Dock Labour Board until she married and emigrated to Canada in 1956. She cared for her three children in East Selkirk at what is now Windmill Farms until the family moved into Selkirk in 1967. From 1969 until her retirement in 1991, she worked as an attendant at Selkirk Mental Health Centre. She made many friends during this time and was active in the MGEA union.

In 1991, Rosemary reunited with her first love, Jim Mackie. She moved to Stirling; they married in October of that year and lived happily until his passing in 2002. She returned to Winnipeg in 2003, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Mom was an outgoing person with a quick wit. She made friends of all ages as she moved through her life. We are grateful to the staff at both the Rosewood and Calvary Place for the love and care they provided during her illness.

In keeping with mom’s wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, consider honouring her life in a way that best suits your relationship to her.

Oh all the time that e’er I spent,
I spent it in good company;
And any harm that e’er I’ve done,
I trust it was to none but me;
May those I’ve loved through all the years
Have memories now they’ll e’er recall;
So fill to me the parting glass,
