RETIRED S/SGT JOHN THOMAS BRUCE FITZMAURICE R.C.M.P. On Saturday, November 26, 2011, John passed away peacefully. Left to forever cherish John’s memory is his loving wife Shirley, of 52 years of marriage; daughter Patricia Fitzmaurice of Winnipeg, MB and daughter Karen (Steve) Kolars of Woodbury, MN. He is remembered with love by his grandchildren Kelsey and Ian Kolars; sister Joan Giardine of Burlington, ON as well as by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Thomas; mother Mary, and brother Doug. John was born in Ottawa, ON, February 23, 1934 and joined the R.C.M.P. at 20 years of age. While stationed in Churchill, MB he met the love of his life, marrying Shirley on July 4, 1959. He proudly served in the R.C.M.P for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He worked shortly with the Manitoba Lotteries Commission and then retired for a second time to allow time for family, golfing, travelling and many other interests. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all who tended to him at the Health Sciences Centre, Surgical Intensive Care Unit in the final weeks of his life. Also the family would like to thank the team that cared for him at the Heart Failure Clinic and the Pacemaker Clinic at St. Boniface Hospital. Prayers will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 followed by Funeral Liturgy which will be Celebrated at 2:00 p.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles St., Winnipeg, MB with Rev. Paul J. Tinguely, presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6; Health Sciences Centre Foundation, MS 107 – 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9; Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6 or to a charity of one’s choice.   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on December 03, 2011
