OLGA HEMBROFF

(nee HANCHER)

January 18, 1926 – June 1, 2019

It is with deep sorrow our family announces the passing of our dear and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Olga at the Charleswood Care Centre after a long and well-lived life.

Olga was born in Winnipeg, second youngest of seven daughters of Catherine and John Hancheruk. Following the tragic loss of her father in 1929 her mother raised the family on her own. In 1946 Olga married Walter. Bruce and Marilyn soon followed. She studied at Faraday School, then Isaac Newton High School. After graduation she worked as a comptometer operator. Olga was able to balance an office career with being mother and homemaker. She worked part time at Office Overload and Drake Personnel, and later full time at Manitoba Pool Elevators. After their retirement she and Walter travelled extensively throughout North America in their van, wintering in Arizona, and travelling to Europe and Australia. They always returned home for Christmas, and Olga would spend days doing her Christmas baking for her family early enough to mail some to her grandson in Australia. She had a deep love of family and cherished time spent with them in the summers at Clear Lake, and in the winters in Mesa and Mexico. Adored by her grandchildren, she enjoyed family celebrations with them and was proud of all their accomplishments.

Left to mourn Olga’s passing and to cherish her memory are son Bruce Hembroff (Louise) and children Catherine Hembroff (Willard Holmen), Andrew Hembroff (Caroline), Mary Anne Hembroff (Jason Bachewich); daughter Marilyn Mutter (Gordon) and children Thomas Mutter (Raena Buksak), Robert Mutter (Denise), Jennifer Mutter and 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Walter (2010), her parents and sisters, Alexandra, Dorothey, Anne, Nell, Julie and Elsie Barto.

Olga had a lifelong affiliation with the United Church and regularly attended Sunday service. She was kind, always having a smile for everyone, and generous, willing to lend a hand whenever needed. As her health declined, she remained strong and stoic.

A special thank you to the staff at Charleswood Care Centre for their compassion and care.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., with Rev. Dr. Michael Wilson officiating. Reception to follow in the Church hall.

Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
