NORMA GRACE THORKELSSON

(NEE MILLER)

June 25, 1922 – November 24,2020

Sadly, Norma passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Annie Miller, and by her beloved husband Gudni in 1974.

Norma was a dear and kind hearted soul who will be missed by all. She worked as a secretary in an insurance office for 45 years. She always said she was glad to retire so that she didn’t have to learn about computers. Norma had a love of travel, the Maritimes and Ireland being her favourites. In later years she so enjoyed the day trips by bus anywhere Fehrway tours would go. She was very proud of her Irish heritage; with her love of anything green. Norma loved to play cards and have a good round of crib with all her friends at Bleak House. She never turned down the chance to go for lunch with family or friends and had a very social calendar well into her 90’s! Norma’s zest for life was an inspiration to us all.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Sherry, Ken and Gail, Sylvia and Elroy; cousins Alice Turman and Carol Turman, and their families; as well as cousins spread out in Canada, Ireland and England; also by very good friends Linda Kizlik, Sandra MacDonald, Marilyn Pearson and Margaret Mills who were like family to her; along with her friends at Young United Church.

A special thanks to everyone at Riverside Lions who welcomed Norma and helped her adjust to new surroundings. She loved being included in all the activities and especially loved the days of music.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Groenewald for her kindness and care over the years; thanks to Homecare for their assistance and thank you to Gregg at the Safeway Pharmacy, River and Osborne.

As per Norma’s wishes, there will be no service at this time and her cremated remains will be placed with her husband at Lundar, MB in June of 2021.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Rest easy dear Norma, forever in our hearts,

we love you and are blessed with the memories.
