MURIEL VIRGINIA BATTERS (nee MacCARTNEY) It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Muriel Batters on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 87 years. Remaining to forever cherish Muriel’s memory is her husband Tedford Batters of 67 years of marriage; four children, Donna (Larry), Ted (Audrey), Gary (Beverly) and Mark; as well as grandchildren, Tara, Christopher, Joel, Shayne and Sahara. She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Mae MacCartney and her sisters Adelaide, Evelyn and Joan. Muriel was born in Montreal, QC on September 4, 1924. She trained as a stenographer and was the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Equipment Officer at the RCAF Equipment Depot #12 in Montreal. It was here that she met Ted who had been transferred to the base following his enlistment in the services in 1943. They were married on March 3, 1945 and remained in Montreal following Ted’s release from the military in 1946. After their first two children were born, Muriel became a full time homemaker. In 1954 they moved to Ted’s hometown of Portage la Prairie, MB. The move from Montreal to the prairies of Western Canada was a difficult change to make but the arrival of two more children, work in her flower garden and an active involvement in a ladies group at the First Baptist Church in Portage and singing in the choir, helped her make her transition to her new home. Ted secured employment with Via Rail, and after a number of years with the company was transferred to Winnipeg in 1967. In Winnipeg, Muriel remained at home until seven years ago when, as a result of a deteriorating neurological condition, she was placed in a nursing home. On Saturday April 14, 2012 a private family Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
