MICHAEL DALY

March 1, 2012

MICHAEL JAMES DALY May 7, 1956 – March 1, 2012 It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Michael James Daly at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, due to lung failure. Left to forever cherish Mike’s memory are his parents Denis and Lois Daly; siblings Kathy (Wayne), Shawn (Susan) and Kerry (Rita); and nieces and nephew, Shea, Patrick and Jacynthe. Mike grew up in Charleswood, surrounded by good friends. In 1973, he spent six months in Mexico at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, where he studied Spanish, guitar and Mayan culture. His fascination with anthropology began there. Mike’s happiest years were spent studying anthropology at the University of Winnipeg, where he enjoyed summer school outings in field archaeology and the companionship of professors and friends. He achieved his Bachelor of Arts in 1979, and embarked on a trip to the Middle East, visiting archaeological sites and Cairo, his grandmother’s birthplace. Despite physical constraints in later years, Mike remained positive, curious and creative, and pursued many interests while spending time with his family. In compliance with Mike’s wishes a private family gathering has been held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on March 10, 2012
