Left to forever cherish Mary’s memory is her daughter Janet Stephanie; son Winston Greig (Andrea Murray) and grandson Thomas William Murray Blakey. She was predeceased by her husband Donald Thomas Blakey (2003). Mary was born in Canmore, AB on May 9, 1948 to parents Emily (Burton) and Cyril Foster. Due to the untimely passing of her mother, she was raised by her extended family John and Marjorie James and brothers in conjunction with her Dad. After moving to Edmonton in the late 1950s Mary met Don and the Blakey family who quickly adopted her as a daughter and their sister. Mary and Don were married on May 11, 1968, moved to Winnipeg in 1969 and began raising a family shortly after. Over the years she worked at the University of Manitoba library, at Planned Parenthood of Winnipeg, at Pinkham Elementary School, and at Greenway Elementary School. She retired in June of 2010. Mary was a loving mother, an avid reader and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles; she loved to garden and cook. One of her most recent pride and joys was becoming a Nana. Mary will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends. We take comfort in that she is now reunited with her beloved husband. On Tuesday, March 6, 2012 Mary’s Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Avenue. The family would like to thank Dr. J. Ritchie and Dr. J. Goldenberg for their ongoing care and support. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, Box 20009, 3310 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3K 2E5.Publish Date: Mar 2, 2012MARY STEPHANIE BLAKEY May 9, 1948 February 27, 2012 Mary Stephanie Blakey passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 27, 2012.
