LUCY WILKEN

June 13, 2012

LUCY ELIZABETH WILKEN (nee MARTIN) July 6, 1924 – June 13, 2012 It is with great sadness and love that we announce the passing of Betty Wilken at the age of 87 years, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Betty had an indomitable spirit to the end. Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her loving family; son James (Patrice); daughter Patricia (Michael); she was particularly proud of her granddaughters, Erica Wilken and Kathryn Woodbury. Mom will be missed by all who knew her; she was kind, loyal and generous and she loved her family and friends dearly. She was predeceased by her husband Norman Wilken. Mom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and grew up in the Sturgeon Creek area. She served overseas in the Canadian Navy during the Second World War. Her early married years with Norm were spent in Bogata, Colombia and Talara, Peru, where she had many fond memories. Betty and Norman also spent many happy years in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, where they made many close friends. In her later years she moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to her son Jim. No formal Funeral Service will be held. Betty will be buried beside her husband, Norman Collie Wilken in North Battleford, SK. We wish to express thanks to the people in the Winnipeg Health Region Home Care and Palliative Program, also the staff at West Park Manor. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Betty’s memory to a charity of their choice. Betty Wilken, you loved and were loved   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on June 16, 2012
