LOUIS LIONEL LAFLECHE

Peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, February 3, 2019, after a courageous battle with Alzheimers disease, Lionel LaFleche passed away at the Action Marguerite (Foyer Valade) care home in Winnipeg, MB to be at home with Jesus.

Left to forever cherish Lionel’s memory are his beloved wife of 58 years, Yvette, who has been his unfailing source of love, and support through all his trials; his two loving children, son Roland (Cathy) of Saskatoon, SK, and daughter Aline (Bruce) of Rockwood, ON. Also grieving his loss are his loved grandchildren, Edmund, Vanessa, and Annie of Saskatoon, SK, and Tyler of London, ON. Lionel is also survived by his sister Monique (John); twin brother Sylvio (Agnes); brothers Robert (Alice) and Gerard (Celine), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and older brothers Alfred (Suzanne), and Martial (Berthe).

On March 13, 1935 Lionel was born in Elie, Manitoba to Irenee and Berthe.

He lived life to the fullest. Faith and Family were his first and foremost unwavering priorities. He was full of Joy, approached life with a gentle humour and a heartfelt empathy for everyone he met.

Lionel was a Steamfitter. His working career spanned over 40 years, starting in Construction before spending 15 years working on Maintenance at the Dryden Chemical plant, and finishing his career back in Construction as a Superintendent working on projects between North Western Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

During his retirement, Lionel and Yvette enjoyed traveling to many places around the world, wintering for more than 12 years in Texas, and spending all his summers at the cottage he built some 45 years ago on Ghost Lake, Ontario, where he enjoyed many sunsets and fishing trips.

Lionel will be remembered as a man who left this world a much better and kinder place than he found it.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday February 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Road, with Rev. Fr. Chrys Obinna Agu presiding. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to Mass. Interment will follow in St. Vital Cemetery, 236 River Road.

The family would like to thank the staff at Foyer Vallade for the outstanding care and compassion shown to Lionel in his final days.
