Lorene Pearl Kitching
(nee Bonner)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother. Left behind to celebrate her life are her sons Calvin, Terry (Karen) and Larry (Terry); grandchildren Melissa (Nolan), Derek, Katie, Amy and Kevin. She also leaves her sister Frances Phillips; sister-in-law Pat Bonner and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by infant son Leslie; parents William and Ida Bonner; brother Jim Bonner and brother-in-law Ross Phillips.

On August 26, 1925, Lorene was born in Roland Manitoba. She received her education at Myrtle and in 1944 moved to Roland with her parents. She joined the staff of the Royal Bank where she worked as a bank teller. In 1952, she married the love of her life Edward (Ted) Kitching. They moved into Winnipeg initially to St. Vital and then settling in Woodhaven in 1955. In August 2014, they sold their house and moved into Sturgeon Creek 1 Retirement Residence.

Lorene enjoyed skating, curling and attended many of her son’s hockey games. She took a keen interest in gardening and sewing. She also canvassed for many organizations over the years. She was an active worker in the Sturgeon Creek United Church and sang in their choir for 52 years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 23 at 11:00 am in Prairie Spirit United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, Winnipeg. Rev. Susan McIlceen will be presiding. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be no reception to follow. Interment will take place for only the immediate family directly following the funeral service.

Every guest attending the funeral service will be required to register their name and phone number upon entering the church. All guests are asked to enter the church through the Thompson Drive entrance. Attendance will be limited to a maximum of 90 guests. Masks are mandatory and social distancing will need to be respected.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Sturgeon Creek 1 Retirement Residence for their support. In particular, Kathleen Kinal for her outstanding care and friendship.

In addition, the family would like to thank the staff of Oakview Place for their compassion and care.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, CancerCare or the charity of one’s choice.
