LEONISA CASINO It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Leonisa Casino (Maaliw Vallestero) on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 71 years of age. Left to forever cherish Leonisa’s memory is her husband of 34 years of marriage, Alfredo Casino; sister Aida (Jose) Avila; nephew Jeffrey and niece Jadelyn (Jose, Jeyanna) of Winnipeg; sister Cecilia Maaliw Edwards (Shelley Gail and Shane) of Toronto; nieces Menchie and Resty Maaliw, Marilou (Orly) Gacusan, Ligaya (Dan) San Juan and children Daniel and Dana; grandniece Kim; brothers Eleuterio and Valentine (Josephine) and family; sister Felicidad in Holland; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; in-laws Jovito and Vicky Avila and family in Winnipeg; long time friends Dick and Angie Friesen in Regina, Rick and Barbara Lower and family in Winnipeg; and many friends and fellow witnesses of Jehovah God. She was predeceased by her parents Vicente Maaliw and Felipa Vallestero in the Philippines; sister Rita; brothers Juan, Magno, Teodoro and Emiliano. Leonisa immigrated to Canada in the late 1960s from the Philippines as a garment worker until her early retirement in 1984. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses she attended the Broadway (Balmoral/Arlington) Congregation, Aberdeen (McPhillips), Elmwood, Lansdowne, Fort Garry, Arlington and most recent briefly with the Winnipeg Tagalog congregation before her untimely passing. She believed in the Bible’s teachings of the resurrection as recorded at John 5:28, 29. The family wishes to extend special appreciation and gratitude to the Administration, Nursing and caregiving staff of the Extendicare Tuxedo Villa for their loving and conscientious care of Leonisa. On Monday, January 16, 2012 Leonisa’s funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1060 Wolever Avenue with Orest Allison officiating.   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on January 14, 2012
