LEONARDUS HUBERTUS PETRUS BEELEN

Peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2019 Leonardus Hubertus Petrus Beelen passed away with his family by his side after a lengthy battle from heart disease.  Leo had just celebrated his 89th birthday.

He was passionate for life and his love for his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Aartje (Anne) (nee Van Reenen); eldest son Leo (Judy); grandchildren Rick, Gina, Tyler and Chantelle; daughter Yvonne (Barry); grandchild Amber (Darryl); great grandchildren Keenan (Diana), Ethan and Brooke; son Gerhard (Brian);  son Robert (Leona); brother Pierre; sister in law Mia Beelen (Tillmans) and numerous nieces and nephews. Leo was predeceased by his daughter Anita (1955); parents Leo and Anna; two brothers Jo and Huub and five sisters Beth, Marie, An, Nellie and Lenie.

Dad was born August 24, 1930 in Nuth, Netherlands. Leo followed in his father and brothers’ footsteps by carrying on the family tradition of working in the coal mines. He immigrated to Canada in 1958 with his wife and son Leo settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Leo was an avid gardener, painter and bird enthusiast. Dad’s passion was also building as he aided in the construction of both his son’s houses. He enjoyed reminiscing about the past with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and anyone who would lend an ear.

The family would like to express a special thank-you to all the caring, compassionate staff on the 5^th floor units 4 & 5 of Seven Oaks General Hospital.

A private Celebration of Life will take place. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
