LAURA DAGG

May 6, 2012

LAURA KATHLEEN DAGG (nee ENNS) June 1926 – May 2012 On Sunday, May 6, 2012, surrounded by her loved ones, Laura passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital at the age of 85 years. Left to forever cherish Laura’s memory are sons, Richard and his wife Heidi, Brian and his wife Shelly; daughter Carol and her husband Brian Lang; cherished grandchildren, Catherine and Christopher Jadeske, Brianne Lang, Erin Lang, Kristopher Dagg, Brian Mikey and Chantel Dagg, Melanie Rempel, David Rempel, Tanya and Steve Thurmeier, and Kurt and Tina Westergaard; the little people in her life that brought her such joy, great-grandchildren, Blake Dagg, Anna, Meghan and Connor Jadeske, Joseph Noonan, Jacob and Benjamin Westergaard, Iris and Wyatt Thurmeier; as well as her beloved sister Pat and husband Bill Doerksen; sisters-in-law, Pat (Alfie) Tetlock and Mary-Ann (Ted) Playford. Laura also had many nieces and nephews in whose lives she took a great deal of interest and enjoyment. She was predeceased by husband, Richard (Dick) Dagg in June of 2010 and her treasured son John who passed away at the age of 25; her parents John and Anna Enns and siblings, Gertrude, Dorothy, Ted and Bob. Laura was born and raised in Winkler, Manitoba and had a lifelong, close relationship with her siblings but her special moments were spent with her sisters Pat and Dorothy. They shared quick wit, ready intelligence and a unique sense of humour which joined them in a lifetime of friendship, laughter and love. In 1947 Laura graduated as a R.N. from the Misericordia School of Nursing. She worked in many different capacities over the span of her 40 year career but she especially valued the last 20 years she spent as an ER nurse at Grace Hospital where she was an esteemed member of the staff. Laura was an amazing cook, a voracious reader, a Jeopardy aficionado and spent many hours pouring over the New York Times Sunday crossword with her sisters. Above all she cherished her role as a mother and grandmother; she loved all of her grandchildren dearly but developed very strong ties with her grandsons Kristopher and Mikey, her Dagg boys. A private family service was held in Woodlands Cemetery in Treherne where she lies in peace with her son and husband as per her wishes. Laura’s final days were spent under the care of the excellent staff at the ER of Grace Hospital where she herself had cared for so many people. Her family would like to extend the deepest gratitude to them for their compassion and support as well as to Dr. Ian Maharaj for his many years of care. Laura was especially grateful for the love and devotion of her grandson, Kristopher which enabled her to stay in the home she loved for the past two years. Believing in the support donations could offer, Laura gave generously each year to four charities that were dear to her heart. If you feel so inclined, in lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. -Robert Frost All your promises have been met and now it is your time to sleep Mom.   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on May 12, 2012
