Joyce Pearl Alexander (nee Laurie)
August 17,1935 – June 4, 2026
Joyce Alexander passed away peacefully in her 90th year. Her children would like to thank the wonderful Home Care staff and the ‘chef extraordinaire’ that made Mom’s years at Charleswood’s Assiniboine Links so enjoyable. A big thank you also to the staff on Unit 2 of the Maples Care Centre that took such amazing care of Mom in her declining years.
Joyce will be missed by her children, Donna Alexander Zwicker (Terry) of Calgary, Arden Alexander (Ron Pidskalny) of Edmonton, son Bill Alexander (Elaine) of Stonewall, Man, granddaughter Jennifer Zwicker (Ethan MacDonald) of Calgary and grandson John Zwicker (Julie) of Edmonton, her great-grandchildren William Alexander MacDonald, Eric MacDonald, Amelia Zwicker and Benjamin Zwicker, her sister-in law Marion Laurie of Sooke, B.C, her best friend Bev Beckwith, her nieces, nephews and their families and her Charleswood community of friends.
Joyce was predeceased by our Dad Bill Alexander, her parents Isabella Laurie (nee Stephen) & Percy Dobson Laurie, and siblings James Laurie, Violet Laurie Stropes, Ruth Laurie Dugard Mercer, Raymond Laurie Dugard, Doreen Laurie Dew, Ethel Laurie Goddard and Bill Laurie as well as Ron and Marg Alexander.
Joyce grew up in Point du Bois and then Beausejour, moving into Winnipeg to attend United College (U of Wpg) and then business school. She met Bill on a blind date; they soon married and lived briefly in Weston before moving to Charleswood with baby Donna in tow in 1959. Mom had been a Past President of the Charleswood Garden Club, a member of the Charleswood United Church, and a board member for her friend the former MP Steven Fletcher. Mom had been delighted to be honoured by the Charleswood Historical Society upon her 50th year in the community.
Condolences may be forwarded through the funeral home. In lieu of flowers perhaps consider a donation to the Charleswood Garden Club, Charleswood Historical Society or Ducks Unlimited. Honouring her request, there will be no service.
