JOSEF OSKAR BERND

Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Joe Bernd. Joe left this world on Monday, August 17, 2020, in Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 62 years.

Joe is survived by the love of his life, Carla Blowatt, fur babies LuLu and Angel, brother Carl Bernd (Cathie), and niece Erika Bernd (Clairmonte) and their wonderful children Carl, Hunter, Gabrielle, Dominic. Joe was predeceased by his father Carlos, mother Maria, and sister Margaret.

Joe fell in love with aviation at the young age of 14. Through his passion for aviation, Joe reached his final achievement of becoming Captain of an Air Ambulance, with Keewatin Air, in Winnipeg. During Joe’s career, he also held various aviation positions in both Jamaica and Florida.

For anyone that knew Joe, we are certain that you will agree that Joe had a large presence entering a room and loved telling jokes!  And yes, some were better than others. LOL!  Joe also had a passion for his “blinged out” 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle!  Joe was also a member at The Winnipeg Gliding Club.

Cremation has taken place and a private “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date.

Many thanks go out to all the doctors and nurses at the Iqaluit Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, and the Cancer Care team at the Victoria Hospital.

Flowers are graciously declined.  However, should you wish, donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.
