JOHN FRANKLIN MURPHY
May 17, 1933 – August 23, 2019

It is with deep regret that we announce the death of John Franklin Murphy on Friday, August 23, 2019 in Winnipeg at the age of 86 years.

John is survived by his wife Rose (nee Yakimchuk) of 64 years. These 64 years have been years of unconditional love and respect; how very blessed. Regardless of the many moves they experienced, each Armed Forces station gave enrichment and was met with joyful anticipation. John is also survived by his daughters Angela (Rudi Philips) of Cambridge Bay, NU, and Maureen Murphy (Jeff Bailey) of Victoria, BC. He was predeceased by his daughter Lisa Walz and is survived by Lisa’s children Michael and Simone Walz of New Brunswick. John also leaves to mourn his two sisters Margaret Bulgar and Agnes Hogan of Nova Scotia.

John was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on May 17, 1933 to Harold and Caroline Murphy. He was so very proud of his maritime roots. He enlisted in the Air Force at 19 years of age and had a very successful and memorable career. He retired at 62 years of age after serving 32 years in the Armed Forces and an additional 11 years as a D M Auditor.

John fought a valiant two-month battle with cancer, and a stroke resulting from a medical intervention which left him unable to speak. The family is very grateful to the professional and kind treatment that John received from the doctors, nurses and aides at the Grace Hospital.

John’s Catholic faith was very important to him and he lived it completely and unconditionally at all times. We thank most sincerely Father Michael Wallbaum, Deacon Robert Gate, and Deacon Claude Lambert.

For those who wish to remember John in the manner by which he lived his entire life, please say a kind word or perform an act of kindness for somebody today.

A private interment will be held at St. Charles Columbarium at a later date with Father Michael Wallbaum presiding.
