JOHN HAROLD (HARRY) MENEER
Peacefully on August 24, 2024, after a lengthy illness, John Harold (Harry) Meneer passed away at Deer Lodge Centre, with his wife Norma at his side.
Harry was born March 4, 1935 in Carberry, Manitoba, moving to Winnipeg in 1948 where he lived all his life.
While still in high school, Harry began working for CNR, where he proudly worked for 42 years, retiring as a Labour Relations Officer in 1991.
Harry married Norma Aitken on September 28, 1963. Besides his wife, he is survived by their 3 sons, John (Fran), Dave (Jen) and Paul as well as 3 grandsons, Josh, Daniel and Matthew. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Trupp (Larry) and brother Wayne (Sonya); Norma’s siblings, Bob (Connie), Doug (Dale), Debra (Don) Smyth and Shirley, (widow of Frank Allan Aitken). Harry was predeceased by his parents, John and Lily Meneer and his brother Ken.
As a long-term resident of Norwood, Harry had been very involved in the community. He was well known for the active role he played for many years in the operation of the Norwood Community Club.
Harry has been a cottage owner at Falcon Lake for over 65 years and was actively involved with the Whiteshell Cottagers Association since 1966 when he first became a Director. He was President from 1973 to 1974 and among other roles was a member of the Arbitration Board for 21 years, serving 10 years as Chairman. He became an Honorary Life Member in 2012.
Harry and Norma became original residents of Vic Wyatt House on St. Anne’s Road in 2000. Over the years he thoroughly enjoyed his involvement and association with the wonderful community established there.
At Harry’s request, a family gathering of remembrance is being held. Flowers are gratefully declined.
