JAMES “JIM” PATRICK McCOY

Peacefully and with grace, James McCoy passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the age of 84.

Jim was a resident of Transcona since 1956 and married to his high school sweetheart, Toni, in 1957. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine “Toni” McCoy; sons Kevin, Daniel and Chris, and two grandchildren, Elysa and Christian.

Jim was born in Devlin, ON and grew up on a family dairy farm where he stayed until he left to join the railway. Jim worked in the yards and on trains and became an electrician for CN.  He subsequently left to become an industrial electrical instructor at Red River Community College from 1965 till he retired in 1994. Jim’s passion for learning continued throughout his life as he acquired his teaching and Master Degree of Education from the U of M while working at RRCC.

He was active in the community, acting as a scout leader in the 60’s and coaching hockey and soccer for two decades. After retirement, Jim stayed even busier.  He and his wife were active members of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, assisting with masses, maintenance and funerals over the years. Jim loved to help with family and community projects where he had the chance to work alongside others and share his electrical knowledge and skills with anyone who needed his help. He also maintained and enjoyed the peacefulness of a cabin on Lake Despair in NW Ontario. Jim and Toni enjoyed travelling and visiting whenever and wherever they had an excuse to go across Canada or abroad. They wished they had even more time to see all there was to offer.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 710 Roanoke Street, Transcona, followed by a gathering at the parish hall.
