HERBERT MARTIN ROATH
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Herbert Martin Roath, known as “Marty” to his friends. After a courageous battle with cancer, Marty peacefully slipped away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg. He was 71 years young.   Left to cherish Marty’s memory are his loving wife, Lesley; his three children, Tracey, Cheryl and Jason along with their partners Norm, Marco and Joanne. He also leaves behind his three amazing grandchildren – Justin, Blade and Sydney, who he was so very proud of – he was a wonderful grandfather. Marty’s relatives and friends in Canada, England and Wales, will miss him very much. He will also remain in Peter’s heart – his best mate.   Marty joined the Royal Navy at the very young age of 15; he had many adventures as he travelled the world, working aboard aircraft carriers such as the HMS EAGLE. Marty brought his family to Canada in 1980, where he worked for 30 years at Winpak before retiring. He loved his work, and made many wonderful friends along the way. Marty’s Winpak family meant a lot to him – even after retirement.   A big hearted animal lover and kind hearted volunteer, always wanting to give to others – Marty will be remembered for his incredible generosity, extremely high level of work ethic, as well as his incredible courage throughout his life.    We will be asking friends and family to join us in celebrating Marty’s life very soon. An announcement indicating date, time and place to follow.   Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Grace Hospital for keeping Marty comfortable at all times, and for the support to the entire family.    Please NO FLOWERS, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9 or to the Grace General Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 3M7. “Flowers die, but donations live on to support memories and hopes for a cure for cancer”.    Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematorium, Winnipeg, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
“As a ship leaves the shore, we weep and wave goodbye, and look as long as our eyes can see as it fades from sight. As the ship gets closer to the other shore, there is joy and much rejoicing!  Tears of joy, as old loves and friends meet again and welcome him home”.
