HENRIETTE DELAQUIS (nee LE GRAS) Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Henriette passed away in Winnipeg on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the age of 87 years. Left to forever cherish Henriette’s memory is her husband Gabriel; six children, Arthur (Shirley), Edgard, Gilles (Brigitta), Marilyne (James), Rémy (Kelly) and Michel; grandchildren, Jeremy (Rina), Mélanie, Natasha (Robert), Janelle (Daniel), Marlayna, Kevin (Sherry), Kelly-Ann, Patricia (Christopher), Gerrit, Krista, Ken, Donavan (Jennifer), Odette (Joe), Elise, and Gilliane; seven great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, in-laws, as well as numerous family members, relatives and friends. Henriette was born in St-Claude, Manitoba. She was raised by her beloved Aunt Rosa and Uncle Adolphe. She worked as a school teacher, principal, bank employee and office assistant. In 1950 Henriette married Gabriel and raised their six children in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba. She encouraged education, music and swimming lessons, and enjoyed planning summer family vacations. She loved history, dancing, baking and arts and crafts. Henriette was a big support in her husband’s business (Shell Bulk Agent) and made sure his supplies of lifesavers and bubble gum were stocked up for the kids on his delivery routes. Publicly, she helped organize transportation for swimming lessons at Lake 7. Upon their retirement, in 1981, Henriette and Gabriel moved to St. Boniface which allowed them to be more involved in their family’s life. Memorable moments for her were weekly craft sales, her yearly participation at Folklorama and fall suppers, as well as entertaining family at lakeside cottages during the summer months. The grandchildren remember Henriette as artistic, bright, caring, generous, gentle, meticulous, sweet and thoughtful as well as being a great storyteller. Her children will remember her as loving and compassionate. In compliance with Henriette’s wishes, no service will be held. A private Interment will take place at a later date. The family wishes to express a thank you to the doctors, staff and fellow residents of Centre Taché (3DE) for the care and compassion given to Henriette during her stay. In lieu of flowers, donations in Henriette’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, Unit 10 – 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or a charity of one’s choice.   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on January 10, 2012
