HELENA (HELEN) STATION (NEE MYSZKOWSKI)

It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing on September 9, 2026, of our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and long-term partner Helena (Helen) Station (nee Myszkowski) at 80 years of age.

Helen will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her children, sons Brian Station and Barry Station (Kim Verrier), daughters Sheryl McIntyre and Diane Benson (David), her grandchildren, Tre McIntyre, Kheyla Merschel (Branden), Miguel Station, Donovan Saunders, Marina Saunders (Caiden) and Mathew Station. Her recently born Great Granddaughter, Aurora Merschel will be shown the ways of her beautiful and devoted Great Grand Mother and taught the family values Helen always strived to instill. She is survived and dearly missed by her long-term partner of 20 years, Theodore (Ted) Hiebert.

Helen was predeceased by her Father Walter in 1974, her Mother Alfreda, in 2012, her brother Eddy in 2005, and 2 brothers in infancy.
Helen was born on April 8, 1946, in a refugee camp in Fallingbostel, Germany after the second world war. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1955 and settled in Winnipeg. She reminisced often that although it was a rough life in Germany, she loved and missed the green pastures, the fresh air, the green hills and the lack of the “brutal winters”.

After obtaining her high school diploma from St. John’s High School in the 1960’s, she entered the University of Manitoba (U of MB) and completed a year in the Faculty of Education. She quickly obtained a position as a teacher in Northern Manitoba in the community of Grand Rapids. She returned home during spring break from her first-year teaching and wedded her first husband Fred Station. They had 4 children together. Later she gave up her teaching career to be a devoted mother to her children while continuing to work at places like Eaton’s, Woolworth’s, Winnipeg Photo, Saan’s and Zellers, then returning to U of MB to complete her Bachelor of Education.
After graduation from the U of M, she worked in the Lord Selkirk school division for a short time as a substitute teacher while still working for Zellers. She later obtained a full-time permanent position with Winnipeg #1 School division as a Teaching Assistant (TA). Working as a TA brought her so much pleasure. Helen really glowed when she would assume a term teaching position at Ralph Brown Elementary School. She would spend hours grading papers, wrapping up “goodie bags” and just planning out something fun for her student class. Her anticipation and enthusiasm for the next day class enlightened her bright smile even more. She remained a TA until her retirement in 2022.
As an adult, she fell in love with Manitoba parks in the summer and fall and she enjoyed them well. She spent numerous days and weeks inside Manitoba provincial parks, especially in Bird’s Hill. In the last 8 years, she purchased a trailer and had it set up in Sandy Hook RV resort in Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba. That quickly became her summer home where she could plant all her flowers and grow some vegetables; she had an impressive green thumb. Her spot out at the lake had a view of the campground playground and she would love to watch the little kids playing on the play structure or just playing ball in the field. Being a teacher was naturally in her blood. Her passion to help children grow and develop their minds and knowledge was hands down the strongest of any teacher you could ever meet.

By far, she was an amazing Mom and a dedicated Grandmother. She was a teacher and worked hard and advocated for all her students. Helen was extremely devoted to everything she did. She loved gardening, camping, the theater (she was a long-time season ticket holder at PTE), singing, and attending church. Anyone who ever met her benefited from knowing her in some way or another. She could relay stories of things she experienced with so much detail; you would think you were reliving the moment yourself. We were all very fortunate to have such a wonderful woman in our lives.

Cremation has taken place, and her ashes will be laid to rest with her Mother at the Elmwood Cemetery with her immediate family. A Celebration of Life will take place in Spring 2027. Extended family and friends will be notified of the gathering to celebrate Helen as the amazing person she was.

Mom, you will always be in our hearts. Every moment we had with you, we appreciate and will always cherish it. Your heart was so big and so bright. You worked so hard for everyone and even harder for all of us. This is your time to rest, Mom. We will all see each other again, one day. We all love you. Rest easy, Mom. You’re a beautiful soul and always have been. God is grateful to receive the Angel you are. Bye-Bye, only for now.
