Grant Douglas Williams
With sorrow we say goodbye to Grant Williams (Dad, Grandpa, Brother) after his battle with dimentia and other complications. However, it is for the best that his suffering was not drawn out any further. Grant passed in the early hours of Friday, July 3rd (2026) at the Riverview Pailiative Care centre at the age of 71.
Grant was born on April 23rd, 1955 into a very small house on Marjorie Street in Winnipeg. As the son of a WW2 veteran and the youngest of 5 boys, it was most certainly a packed household with a ton or personality and challenges.
Grant leaves behind his devoted wife Jeri of 46 years of marriage, sons Lee (Tory) and Trevor (Randi), Granddaughter Naliah and Step-Granddaughter Drea, his brothers Bob (Edith) and Paul (Helen), and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Grant was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Gertrude, brother Rex (Bonnie), and brother Larry.
Dad’s passions included scuba diving with his brother Larry, being the lead guitarist in ‘the Dilly Band’, building aquariums/keeping fish, and taking the family fishing & camping. Dad and Larry would decend to the depths of West Hawk Lake, while the family swam atop; we always thought it was so cool to have a diver Dad and Uncle. As a kid, I recall attending the Dilly Band jam sessions over at Craig & Vee-Jee’s house while playing with jr. I thought my Dad was so cool being a lead guitarist. I don’t know if Trevor, Amy, Kaidence, and myself would even have found the guitar without the influence of Dad and Uncle Paul bringing music into our worlds. Thanks to Dad bringing us to the lake every year, where the family shared bonding moments and learned to appreciate the beauty of nature.
Here inside the first couple weeks, we require some time to process everything. Planning an immediate service is not required since he was cremated. We have time to plan and organize a proper celebration of life as soon as Mom has sufficiently processed and we are thinking sometime in the coming months. We will send that invite to all key friends & family an with enough notice. Music will definately be a part of it as it was in our life together; but no half-hour single-note guitar solos please! (inside joke ;D ).
The family sends sincere thanks to the excellent and empathic health care professionals of Riverview’s Palliative Care team, and to Wojicks Chapel. Special thanks to Bonnie and Kaidence who’s empathy and compassion were so hearfelt that they seemed like angels in the room. Sincere thanks to all friends and Family who showed their support in his final days as this not only helped us survivors, but I’m certain Dad could hear us and feel our energy.”
