I met Gloria in 1990 when I was 18 years old when I was taking Commercial Foods at South Winnipeg Tech. I was scheduled to work in the cafeteria with her. When she first met me, she didn't like me but that quickly changed when she got to know me. I worked with her in the cafeteria for a few weeks and we became really good friends. When I turned 19 on Dec 20th, she brought in a small bottle of Irish coffee for my birthday drink. I was shocked to hear of her passing when I was messaging her nephew on Ancestry DNA, I asked him if her was related to Gloria Smith and he told me she was his Aunt. I saw the past tense but I told him I have to give her a call to let her know we are actually related. He then let me know that we may not be speaking of the same person so I went to search her up and saw this. I loved this woman, she was there for me when I needed a mother figure in my life. She always like to hear me laugh when we would speak, we would always be on the phone for at least an hour or more at a time. I did try calling her a few times but I wasn't able to reach her. I hope her family knows how.much she loved them, she would share so much with me. I will cherish my memories 💕 my sincerest condolences to her loved ones ❤️

My wife Valerie, our daughter Kelly and I met Gloria around 44 years ago. Kelly was 6 months old at the time and we needed someone to look after her during the day after Valerie’s maternity-leave had ended. Gloria had been recommended to us and when we returned to her place after work that evening to pick Kelly up, we could see immediately that we had made the best decision we possibly could. Over the years, Valerie kept in touch with Gloria by phone and a couple of months ago, we found time to get together with her for breakfast. While I did notice some changes in Gloria, she still that spark in her that I remembered. When we were about to leave left to take her home after breakfast, she had not finished her pancakes so we had them boxed up. Valerie drove, Gloria sat in the passenger’s seat and I sat in the backseat. When we got to her place and she was getting out, she turned around, looked at me and said that she saw me looking at her pancakes and said, with that coy little smile of hers, that I couldn’t have them. We will always remember Gloria Smith.

I am thankful to have known Gloria. She had a good sense of humor, a definite mind of her own, and how she loved to venture out which was scary at times. I am glad Gloria is at peace; she deserves it. Judy Moore
