GILLES AUGUST CARON

Peacefully on Friday, June 8, 2018, Gilles August Caron passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 93 years.

Left to survive Gilles are his wife Edith (nee Andries); children, Donald, Catherine (Robert) Seneshen, Kenneth (Lorna), Gregory (Kerri), Christine Zimmerman; grandchildren Brandie Nicholls (Travis), Shawn, Skylar, Heather, Jennifer Taylor (Jamison), Brooke, Brett, Amanda, Amber, Samantha, Cody, Ryleigh; great grandchildren, Austin, Jaxon and Ava, brother Aime, daughter- in- law Patty; sisters-in-law Isabelle (Louis) and Marcelle (Denis) Caron and the Andries families; as well as many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family. He was predeceased by his parents, Xavier and Anna; siblings Sister Bertha Caron, Marcel, Denis, Louis, Pauline, Raymond and Rita; granddaughter Stephanie; and most recently his oldest son Paul.

Gilles was born in St. Francois Xavier and raised in Headingley, living there all of his life.  He attended St. Charles Academy and attended St. Charles Roman Catholic Church all of his life. Gilles was a veteran of the Second World War, discharged December 13, 1945. He was the proud recipient of the Atlantic Star, the War Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. After being discharged from the service, he and his brother Louis farmed the family farm for many years and later handed over his partnership to his nephew Dan Caron.  Farming was Gilles life.  He was a life member of the Charleswood Curling Club joining in 1947 till he retired from curling in 2007.

Gilles was proud of his children and all the grandchildren.

Thank you to all the staff, nurses and aides at Tower 6 of Deer Lodge Centre for all the great care they gave. Thank you to Don and Lillian Leathwood for always being there for Mom.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault P.H. presiding. Interment will follow in St. Charles Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery.
