GILBERT EDMOND ADELIN DAMBLY

The family of Gilbert Dambly is saddened to announce his passing on October 27, 2020 shortly after his 86th birthday.

Gil was born on a farm near Lewvan, SK on October 24, 1934. He was the youngest of three sons born to Frank and Anna Dambly. The Great Depression influenced his values. He learned never to waste anything and how to fix everything.

The railway was his calling. He left school early to join the Canadian National Railway. Gil’s career with the CNR took him and his family from Weyburn, SK. to Moncton, NB. After his career with CNR, he took positions with VIA Rail and Transport Canada. There was never a shortage of railway stories.

Gil enjoyed many and varied past times; fishing, curling, attending fowl suppers, dancing, and playing cards to name a few. Gil and Norma participated in these past times with their lifelong friends made throughout his career moves. One of his greatest talents was woodworking. The legacy of this talent can be seen in the furniture built for schools, friends, and family. He took great pride in building items for his grandchildren.      Gil will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Norma (nee Schwindt); daughter Shellie, son-in-law Grant and grandchildren Laura, Karen, and Derek Hatch; son Darren, daughter-in-law Sharon (Kornago) and grandchildren Adelin, Cole and Renae Dambly. His in-laws, nieces and nephews will miss “George”. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Franklin and Joss, and brothers-in-law Edwin Harker, Lorne Schwindt, and sister-in-law Shirley Dambly (Adair).

Cremation has taken place and there will be no service.

Donations may be made in Gil’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choosing.
