GEORGE EDWARD “ED” NOAKES
Sept 13, 1931 – Oct 22, 2026
George Edward “Ed” Noakes, aged 95, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2026, following a brief stay at Grace Hospital.
After a 38-year career with CNR, Ed embarked on a second career when he opened Eddie’s Sharpening in 1982. For more than five decades, he could be found in his shop doing what he loved: sharpening knives, fixing clippers, and chatting with customers. Known for his gift of storytelling, Ed could turn a quick drop-off into a 30-minute conversation, often sharing tales from years gone by with anyone willing to listen.
Ed was predeceased by his wife, Lila. He is survived by his children, Linda (widow of Richard) and Gordon (Angelica); grandchildren, Robyn (Jamie) and Monica (Stephen); and great-grandson, Levi. He will also be deeply missed by his lifelong friend, Wes Tully.
Cremation has already taken place.
Following Ed’s wishes, a private family service will take place at a later date.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff on the third floor at Grace Hospital for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Ed and his family during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society, one of Ed’s favorite charities.
