FRIEDA FLORENCE KLAPPRAT (NEE MIDDLESTEAD)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frieda Florence Klapprat (nee Middlestead), beloved Mother, Grandmother, sister and aunt. She passed the evening of Saturday, August 8th, 2026 at her residence of Park Manor Care Home at the age of 95.
Frieda was predeceased by her much-loved husband of 52 years, Harry, sisters Edna (Emil), Myrtle (Mike), Martha (James), and brothers Walter (Irene), Arthur (Claire) and George. She leaves to mourn her loss daughter Cheryl, son Duane, daughter-in-law Kathy, grandchildren Brittney and Cody, brother Richard, sisters-in-law Bernice Middlestead, Sharon Middlestead, Helen Klapprat and Malvinia Klapprat as well as many nieces and nephews.
Frieda was born on February 8, 1931, the fifth of eight children born to Fred and Johanna Middlestead. Life on the farm was hard but was always filled with love and music. Frieda left the farm at 18, moving in with her sister Edna, to find employment in Winnipeg. She worked in various industries including a bakery, advertising, Eaton’s and the Free Press. In 1959 she married the love of her life, Harry and they were blessed with 2 children, Cheryl in 1960 and Duane in 1963. Mom spent the next decades making a loving home for her family. After Duane married Kathy Riddolls in 1997, they gave Mom her greatest treasures, her grandchildren. Brittney was born in 1998 and Cody in 2001.
Frieda enjoyed music and loved when her extended family would gather for sing-a-longs. She loved to garden and took delight when neighbours would stop to admire her flower beds. Mom also enjoyed going out to their second home in Moosehorn where she delighted in bingo and fishing.
After Harry’s passing in 2011, Frieda moved into an apartment at Kildonan House where she spent many happy years. Once her health declined, she moved into Park Manor Care Home for a brief period of time.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 21st, 2026 at Grace Lutheran Church (211 Kimberly Ave) with a luncheon to follow. A private internment will take place at a later date. Thank you to the staff of Concordia Hospital and Park Manor Care Home for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice
Precious Lord, Take my hand, Lead me on, Let me stand. I am tired, I am weak, I am worn. Through the storm, thru the night, lead me on to the light. Take my hand, Precious Lord, Lead me home.
