ESTHER BORNN

Esther Bornn, beloved wife, mother, granny, sister, aunt and friend, died on March 10, 2019 at Grace Hospital. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, John, and is survived by her children, Deb, Rick and Dave, and their families. John and Esther were married on the first day of summer in 1956, and their bond created a wonderful home; their legacy continues with their dear grandchildren, Gavin, Keenan, Liam and Siobhan (Deb; and their father Stu), Alyssa and Matthew (Rick and Nancy), and Robert (Dave and Sandra). Esther was born in Blumstein near Winkler on November 16, 1934, third youngest child of Helena Rempel and Jacob Reimer, part of a large family of 11 children. Esther and her four sisters were lifelong friends, and all the Reimer siblings stayed in close touch through a tradition of family gatherings started by their parents. Esther became a teacher in 1956; she had a long and fulfilling career as a primary teacher and reading specialist. Her love of learning and reading brought literacy and joy in learning to her many students. Right after Esther’s graduation from Teacher’s College and their wedding, Esther and John moved to Ontario, returning to Winnipeg in 1966 to raise their family in St. James. In that community, they made many friends and joined Bethel Baptist Church. Esther had a strong faith in God and lived according to her beliefs. Family, friends, education and faith have been the focus of Esther’s life. Esther’s family would like to thank the caring medical professionals who helped Esther over the past years, including her family doctor, Dr. Elin Bergman, Dr. Robert Kroeker and Dr. Jeffrey Barnes. A memorial service honouring Esther will be held at Bethel Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Bethel Baptist Church or the Heart & Stroke Foundation may be made in Esther’s memory. We love you forever, Mom.
