ERROL WILLIAM KLINCK

It is with great sadness, that the family announces the passing of Errol Klinck, on Sunday, November 4, 2018, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 78 years, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Errol is survived by his wife Kathy; his sons Michael (Leslee), Mark (Jennifer), Jeffery (Tamara); Kathy’s sons Mark (JeniLyn), Brent (Kelly); grandchildren, Allison, Andrew, Matthew, William, CJ, Ashton, Dylan, Devin, Nathan, and Leah; brother Bob (Elaine), and sister Shirley; brothers-in-law Ed (Dawn), Colin (Val); sisters-in-law Josie (Richard), Marilyn; plus numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents William (Bill) and Ruth Klinck.

On July 13, 1940 Errol was born in Regina, Saskatchewan.  After graduating from Balfour Technical School, he started his career at Eaton’s in Regina, then in Moose Jaw, and then transferred to Winnipeg in 1968. Errol also started to make his mark in the curling world when he arrived in Winnipeg, skipping a rink out of the Eaton’s Curling Club in Winnipeg, winning some games against top opponents, and soon became a name to be recognized. The legend of “The Colonel” was born.  When Eaton’s Curling Club closed down, Errol moved to the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club, and it became his home club. He participated in the annual MCA Bonspiel, winning some major and minor events along the way, competed in the British Consols and the Labatt Tankard in the 70s and 80s, and was two wins away from the right to represent Manitoba at the Labatt Brier, in 1985. Errol continued to curl in Seniors and Masters at Assiniboine, Fort Rouge and Heather Curling Clubs. Along with being an excellent curler, he played fastball with the Hillary Blues, in the Crestview Men’s Fastball League, and eventually senior’s slo-pitch for the Wok House. Errol was extremely proud to be from Saskatchewan, and it was in full display during the C.F.L season cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders, wearing many of their t-shirts, hats, and jerseys he collected over the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 22, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club, 940 Vimy Road.

The family would like to thank Dr. James Butler, Dr. Vallerie Gordon, nurses Robert and Lori at CancerCare Manitoba, and Palliative Care nurses Sean and Trish, for their treatment, care and concern for Errol.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Errol’s honour, may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9.
