On July 14, 2020, Allie passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospice.

Allie was born in Winnipeg and lived here all of her life. After graduating from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, she worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and then, after raising her children, worked part-time at Birks, Polo Park.

In 1947, by the “big rock” at Grand Beach, Allie met Joe. They began dating and enjoyed several trips, via the Moonlight Express, to the Grand Beach Dance Pavilion. On August 20, 1949, Allie married Joe and they continued to enjoy many summers at the family cottage at Grand Beach.

Allie was an extremely accomplished Bridge player. On one occasion, she was chosen to play against Omar Sharif in the World Championships at the Winnipeg Auditorium.

Allie was a sports enthusiast, playing basketball, tennis, bowling, curling and golf. For many years, Allie and Joe belonged to Breezy Bend Golf and Country Club. There, she served on the Board of Directors, in many capacities, including Ladies President. Subsequently, she served as Vice President, President and Past President of both the Manitoba and Canadian Ladies Golf Associations.

Allie was a devote catholic. Earlier on, she attended Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church and in the early sixties, became a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish. There, she gave tremendously of her time, volunteering in many capacities including choir, Parish council, Eucharist Minister, and bingo, to name a few.

Allie was predeceased by her beloved husband Joe; her parents Michael and Elizabeth and her siblings, Archie (Kay) Buttassy, Lou (Fred) Fabro and Judy (Colin) McKenzie.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Gary (Isabel), daughter Lori; grandsons, Matthew and Joseph and many nieces and nephews who were all very special to her.

Thank you to the supportive staff at Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts, her home for the last few years. Also thank you to Dr. R. Albak for your many years of care and compassion. Mom truly thought the world of you and attributed her long life to your wonderful care. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff on the 3E Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Centre and the Grace Hospice. You are all truly special people. Finally, thank you to the family and friends that supported us during this most difficult time.

Honouring Mom’s wishes, there will be no funeral. Interment will take place at a later date with family and close friends.

Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish, donations in Allie’s memory may be made to the Grace Hospice or another deserving charity of your choice.
