EILEEN BLANCHE WARD
It is with great sadness that the friends of Eileen Blanche Ward announce her passing.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents Donald and Eileen Ward. She is survived by her family in the United Kingdom and many close friends here in Winnipeg, who became her family as she did theirs. Eileen was born in York in the United Kingdom. She and her parents subsequently emigrated to Canada settling first in Brandon Manitoba. Upon completing her nursing training St. Boniface Hospital, Eileen returned to Brandon where she nursed for a number of years at the Brandon General Hospital.
When the family re-located to Winnipeg, Eileen nursed at St. Boniface Hospital where she enjoyed a long-distinguished career specializing in intensive care medicine. She remained a nurse for life and would go into “work mode “as she called it whenever anyone needed medical help or advice. As has been said “Nursing is not for the empty of heart…nor the faint of heart” and in her work as a nurse no one had a bigger heart than Eileen.
Upon her retirement, Eileen enjoyed spending with her many friends, especially at the Assiniboine Downs where everyone’s birthdays were celebrated, “large” $2.00 bets were made on the races and many memories were made. Eileen enjoyed opera, famously naming her cars after her favourite operas, completing the New York Times crosswords in record time, basset hounds especially her beloved Buffy and JJ and cooking wonderful gourmet meals for her friends. Eileen truly brightened the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Eileen will be greatly missed by her friends including Cathy and Gordon Henwood, Karen Burwash, Maurice and Delores Blanchard, Michelle Blanchard and Gary Robinson. Her friends would especially like to thank the staff at the Charleswood Personal Care for the care they gave to Eileen during her time residing there. It was a great relief to her friends to know that Eileen was safe and so well cared for by the dedicated staff. Cremation has taken place and Eileen’s ashes have been interned in a private rose garden. Friends will gather together in the Spring to remember and celebrate Eileen.
