EDWIN (TED) VINCENT FAULKNER

February 6, 1927- December 15, 2020

It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Left to cherish Dad’s memory are the twins Mike and Patty, Dave (Jenny) and George Doyle; grandchildren Elizabeth (Paul), Debbie (Bill), Max (Kaitlyn) and Sam; and great grandchildren Jake, Sam, and Sophie. Dad has left us to be reunited with cherished family members and friends; his parents William and Mary; and brothers Norman (Lally) and Stan (Lee).

Ted was born at Deer Lodge Hospital and raised in Charleswood. His class of 1945 was the first graduating class to graduate grade 11 from Chapman High School He attended Gordon Bell for grade 12. In 1993 Dad attended his 80-year Chapman High School reunion.

Ted as a Junior hockey player played for the Winnipeg Canadians. He was picked up by the Baltimore Clippers then moving on to play for the Toledo Mercurys, Louisville Blades, Akron Americans, and Fort Frances Canadians. Ted scored a hat trick in one game and was given an engraved silver hat which his son Mike proudly wears. Dad would say he was “paid weekly…very weakly” as a hockey player.

Coming back to Winnipeg, Dad worked at CPR as a mail clerk travelling all across Canada. He was then relocated with CPR to Shaunavon Saskatchewan where his son Dave was born. We lived across the street from the rink where Dad played for the Shaunavon Blades. Returning to Winnipeg we resided in Charleswood. Ted was very active at Roblin Park Community Club. Using his hockey skills, he coached hockey and helped out wherever needed spending many late nights flooding the rinks. The best ice in Winnipeg was made by Dad and the other fathers who volunteered their time. The years Dad spent at Roblin Park, Dad said” those were the best years of my life.”

In the 60s Dad worked for Air Canada in Winnipeg, until his department was moved to Dorval Quebec in the early 70s. Dad travelled to Nottingham England, birthplace of his father, and enjoyed many winter vacations in Barbados at The Magic Isle. Dad was there so many times he is on a brochure for the Magic Isle. He enjoyed his early morning walks having a cigar and enjoying the pool at his apartment. Dad would fill the room with laughter with all the jokes he told.

Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Ted’s name to Manitoba Blind Sports Association, 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2Z6.

In accordance with Dad’s wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Dad you were One Special Guy!

You will be sadly missed and always remembered.

See you later, alligator.
