EDITH MAY BALDWIN

(nee FORREST)

May 10,1922-April 10, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother “Edie” who passed away peacefully at the Niverville Personnel Care Home.

Mom was predeceased by parents Simon and Jane Ann (Laing) Forrest; eight siblings, twins Sam and Mary, brothers Bill, John, Bob, sisters Margaret, Nancy and twin Nona, half sister Jane Ann (Laing) Smith and half brother Jefferson Laing, sons-in-law Gary Penner and Roy Phillips. She is survived by her six children, Sharron Steinhauer, Jane Phillips, Robert (Caroline) Baldwin, Ronald (Carol) Baldwin, Neil (Kathy) Baldwin, Deann (Peter) Unger. She leaves to mourn 19 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Edie and her twin sister where born two miles north of Niverville, Manitoba on the family farm. The twins came home in shoe boxes and were kept warm in the cook stove warming oven. In her younger days Mom was known to be one of the best baseball pitchers for both the men’s and women’s teams and nobody could put her out at bat.

On November 23, 1945 Edie married Harvey Baldwin of Otterburne, Manitoba. They farmed there from 1945-1954. They then moved to Foxwarren, Manitoba and resided and raised their six children. In 1974 they sold the family farm and lived in different places in southern Manitoba.

Mom loved to play her harmonica, dance, play cards, bingo and was a devoted sports fan. She was active in the Legion and Eastern Star Auxillary. She was always the life of the party and was better known as the “pie and pastry lady”.

Many thanks to the staff at the Heritage Centre for the exceptional care she received during her years there.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Niverville United Church, 55 1 St N, Niverville, MB. Refreshments to follow.
