DOREEN PERSOAGE

March 25, 2012

DOREEN PERSOAGE (nee GULLIKSON) Peacefully, after a brief illness, our beloved Mom, Gramma and friend passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 88, with family by her side. Remaining to forever cherish Mom’s memory are her sons, Randy (Val) (Calgary), and Reid (Lynne); grandchildren Cori (Calgary), Katelyn and Michael; great-grandson Parker (Calgary); step-grandchildren and their children Terri / Marty (Tori, Paige and Sydney) and Sheri / Mike (Elias and Taryn) (all of Calgary); sister Muriel Perry; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was predeceased by her soul mate, Joe; parents, Gustav and Anna; brothers Ralph, Oscar and Donnie, and sisters Iva and Marion. Mom grew up in Inwood and moved to Winnipeg in her late teens. She initially worked as a maid/nanny for a family in old St. Boniface, saying she knew how to cook during the interview and then learning on the fly. She also worked at Merchant’s Consolidated until beginning her favourite occupation – Mom and homemaker. Mom and Dad loved to travel and enjoyed their trips to the States, whether Detroit Lakes cabins and New Orleans when the boys were young, or to Hawaii, Calgary and then Phoenix when the boys had their own families. She loved family gatherings and especially the time she spent with her grandchildren, from babysitting when they were little, watching sports, music, dance or other activities they participated in and seeing them grow into young adults. Mom was very proud of her boy’s and her grandchildren’s accomplishments. A Service in Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive. Interment will be held this summer in Norris Lake Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff at Grace Hospital Emergency for their care and kindness to Mom, especially Courtney. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doreen’s memory may be made to Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7; Norris Lake Cemetery Association, Box 123, Teulon, MB, R0C 3B0 or a charity of your choice. Gram, thank you for everything you have given us. We will miss you terribly and are grateful for the time we have had together. Say hi to Poppa. Love you.   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on March 28, 2012
