DONNA LYNN MARTIN

On March 24, 2021, with her loving husband and son by her side at St. Boniface Hospital, Donna Lynn Martin (nee Carter) passed away at the age of 63 years after living bravely with Multiple System Atrophy for the past three years.

Donna was predeceased by her mother, Cecilia Carter in 2007, sister Marlene Wellman in 2008 and father Robert Carter in 2010. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 45 years, Bruce Martin and their three children: Craig (Tamara) of St. Paul, Alberta, Robynn Clark (Michael) and Kimberly Cleave of Winnipeg; and her ten amazing grandchildren, which were her life’s greatest joy: Tianna, Trista, Nathan, Tori, Taylor, Melanie, Cassie, Maddux, Theo, and Summer. She also leaves to mourn her siblings Brian (Ingrid) of Yellowknife, NWT, Norman (Roseline) of Winnipeg, Jo-Anne (Claude) of St. Albert, AB and Terry (Desmond) of Winnipeg, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Donna was born on February 4, 1958 and grew up in Winnipeg with her parents and five siblings. She married Bruce, the love of her life, at the age of 17 years, who devotedly cared for her at their home during the progression of her disease.  She worked many jobs throughout her life including 31 years with the Government of Canada where she ended her career as a Labour Affairs Officer when she retired in 2013.

She never complained, not once, about her disease and the pain she must have felt for so long.  Donna was always happy, especially when she spent time with her grandchildren in Winnipeg and St. Paul, AB. She will always be remembered as the best wife, mom and grandma we could have ever asked for and will forever be in our hearts.

Our family would like to sincerely thank the staff in 4B at St. Boniface Hospital for all of their care, support and compassion over the last week and to Rosie Omichinski, her wonderful physiotherapist who caringly helped Donna every week while enjoying the numerous stories she shared about her grandchildren.

A private funeral will be held at Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street on Thursday, April 1, 2021 officiated by Rev. Fr. Armand Le Gal.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donna’s honour to support research for Multiple System Atrophy: www.msacanada.ca
