DAVID JOHN BROMILOW

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected death of David John Bromilow on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Tuxedo Villa in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 76 years.

Dave was born April 19, 1944 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the son of Stan and Alice (James) Bromilow. They lived in Moose Jaw for a short time and returned soon after to Winnipeg, where he lived the rest of his life.

He is survived by his spouse of 50 years Alma (Oelkers) Bromilow; his son Michael Bromilow; his daughter Karen (Bromilow) and her husband Mike Cairns; his brother John and his wife Barbara Bromilow (Mathews); his brother Michael Bromilow and his partner Gloria Thorsteinson; three grandchildren William and Alice Bromilow, Morgan Cairns; and by his three nieces; Catherine Bromilow, Maria Bromilow, Kristen Bromilow.

Some of Dave’s best memories of his youth were of time at their cottage in Ponemah, spending hours of fun exploring with his brothers John and Michael. After Ponemah, Dave’s family set sights on Big Whiteshell Lake where many more memories were made with friends and a growing family. Soon, mother and father moved residence from St. Vital to Assiniboine Avenue in St. James where Dave attended St. James Collegiate and St. Paul’s High School. In 1968 Dave met Alma, the love of his life. Together they created a beautiful life and family as they later welcomed two children, Michael and Karen. Dave was a loving, generous and fun dad. He instilled a love of eclectic music, nature, literature and conversation. His children could always count on dad to be there to support them, be it a ghastly knee gash, a broken leg, an empty gas tank or trouble with friends. He especially enjoyed cycling, long walks through Assiniboine Park, and entertaining with friends and family. His love of literature and nature made Dave a very interesting conversationalist.

Dave was the consummate people person with a passion to connect. He was a career salesman in the building supplies industry, having a love for his customers and creating close business relationships that extended into friendships.

Dave had a particular passion for time spent over many years at ‘Tintown’ in Delta Marsh on Lake Manitoba. There he laughed, hunted and connected with many close, life-long friends. Many of his fondest memories were here in his happy place with these friends; “sunrise at the marsh”. He was a multi-decade member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Ducks Unlimited caring very much about both organizations.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to everyone who has taken care of Dave in one way or another over recent years with a special nod to Herbert and staff at Tuxedo Villa Station 2.

When large gatherings are feasible, a celebration of life will be organized.
