DAVID ARMSTRONG

SEPTEMBER 04, 1927 – APRIL 08, 2020

Peacefully at his own home and family by his side, David Armstrong passed away on Wednesday April 8, 2020, at the age of 92.

Left to remember him are his loving wife Wilma along with their three children and five grandchildren:  Dave and son David Jr. (23), Eileen and David Schade and two sons William (21) and Tim (18), Randy and Lorrie and their two sons Colin (27) and Ryan (21).

Dave was born in Scotland where he married Wilma in 1952 and they journeyed to Canada on board a ship called “Corinaldo”. This past February they celebrated their 68^th wedding anniversary.  When Dave arrived in Canada, he began his work as an Electrician at CNR Transcona Shops (1953) and settled in Transcona where he and Wilma lived and raised their family.

Retirement from CNR came after 33 years of service, at age 55. In the years leading up to retirement, Dave built a home in Bonnet Oaks, a development on the Lee River in Lac Du Bonnet. Around 1992 they sold their Winnipeg home and began the life of summers at the cottage and winters in Texas, which lasted for 30 glorious years. The trip to Texas in October was always made in two quick days as they could not wait to meet up with their “Pine to Palm” friends.  Dad was affectionately known as “Scotty” and had many lasting friendships. He became well known for his shuffleboard skills and always came back to the cottage with a new wood project which kept him tinkering in the garage during the summer.

Summer months at Lee River always included friends dropping by for a visit and maybe a “wee bit of scotch”. Dave tended to a large garden and in the more recent years he started his tomato plants from seed and shared the seedlings with family. His biggest love was his family and gatherings usually included a turkey, carved with care by Dad. “Pappa” was very proud of his five grandsons and had special bonds with each of them.

We will see you again one day Dad. You are loved very much and will be missed dearly.
