DANIEL HILDEBRAND

December 25, 2011

DANIEL (DAN) BERNARD HILDEBRAND March 7, 1951 – December 25, 2011 It is with deepest sadness that we announce the death of Daniel Bernard Hildebrand. Dan passed away in his home, with his wife by his side, on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25, 2011, at the age of 60 years after a one year, courageous battle with cancer. Left to forever cherish Dan’s memory is his spouse Nicolle Brockie; her son Trevor and family; sister Elizabeth Calyn; brother Jerry (Marge); brother-in-law Allen Churchill, Anne Winter (David), Teenie Wall (Sieg), Mary Dyck, Agnes Pauls, Martha Pauls (Jack), Phyllis Pauls (George). Dan will also be very sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, as well as numerous friends. He was predeceased by his father Bernhard, (1962); mother Helena (nee Reimer) (1989); sisters Helen Churchill (2002), Esther Krahn (2002); brothers-in-law, Neil Krahn (1979), John Calyn (1984), Ray Dyck (2000), Neil Pauls (2008); nephews Joey Pauls (1994) and Robert Winter (2007). As the youngest child of the late Bernhard and Helena Hildebrand of Winkler, Dan learned early to avert the doting, protective care of his parents and sisters by a bright disarming smile and a keen sense of humour. His smile and generous spirit warmed the hearts of everyone he met. Graduating with a BA from the University of Manitoba, Dan’s career path in sales took him to employment with Canada Packers, Aetna Roofing and Steel, and ultimately to a fulfilling career with Hewlett Packard where he thrived for 25 years until his death. He was an avid curler and was very involved with both the Provincial and National Executives. The highlight of his career came when he represented Manitoba at the 1985 Brier in Moncton, NB. On that occasion Dan was honoured with the Ross Hartstone Sportsmanship Award. Volunteerism in many venues was a major part of his private life to which he devoted countless hours. Time with family and friends was Dan’s highest priority. His generous nature never neglected to celebrate every family occasion to which he always brought a special generosity of spirit and love. His extraordinary devotion to his niece Cindy, who was left paralyzed by an accident at age three, is a reflection of the kind of generous man he was. Dan’s passion for golf, music and traveling was shared with Nicolle. His love for life was exemplified by his delight in hosting and entertaining their families and countless, wonderful friends. He touched the lives of so many with his endless energy and no celebration was complete until Dan had arrived. For those who wish, viewing will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue with a Devotional and Prayers at 7:00 p.m. Dan’s Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road at Springfield Road in Winnipeg, MB. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Grace CancerCare; Dr. Patricia Harris and Arlene as well as the Palliative Care Team of Dr. Bruce D. Martin, Norma, Cathy and Corinne and the innumerable number of friends that have supported us over this past year.
