CYNTHIA MARIE LAVALLEE

(nee FUNK)

June 27, 1961- December 5, 2018

With her husband Tony by her side, Cindy passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 after her two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Cindy will be deeply missed by Tony, her husband of 29 years; daughter Melanie (Brent); her three beautiful granddaughters whom she adored, Maddie, Kayla, and Hayley; her son Chris (Rachel) and her in-laws Kathy and Ron Blowatt. Left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Denise (John), Brenda (Jack), and six brothers, Barry (Brenda), Bill (Nan), Rick (Deb), Terry (Karen), Kim (Lenda), Jeff (Tracy), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her father Peter (2008); mother Ruth (2011), and close friend Terry (2018).

Cindy was devoted to the many roles she took on in her life but the happiness and pride she felt as a nana was inspiring. She enjoyed making lasting memories; as family meant the world to her and she would surround herself with them as much as possible. Cindy was a brilliant woman who was dedicated to her work and took particular pride in her time spent with the Manitoba Indigenous Cultural Education Centre alongside her friend and colleague Dennis Daniels, as well as many others whom she met over the years.

Blessed with a great sense of humor and welcomed advice, Cindy was also known to have a sharp wit as well as a sharp tongue that kept those who knew and loved her constantly on their toes. Like her mother, she was a support to so many family and friends whose lives she has touched in a special way, and like her father, her passing will leave a void in many people’s lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held with close friends and family. There will be a private Interment.

Thank you to all the staff at the Victoria General Hospital-CancerCare, Grace Hospital, Palliative Manitoba, and Riverview Health Centre for ensuring her comfort and dignity was their priority.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to CancerCare Manitoba, or the Manitoba Diabetes Association.
