CORDELIA BRYCE

April 28, 2012

CORDELIA (CORDIE) BRYCE (nee BORKOWSKI) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cordelia (Cordie) Bryce on Saturday, April 28, 2012 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Left to forever cherish Cordie’s memory are her husband Mel of 62 years of marriage; daughters Lori (Keith) and Tracy (Frank); daughter-in-law Bev; grandchildren Sarah (Tyler), Dave and Emily (Cam); sisters Rose (Jim) and Elsie; brother John (Edie); numerous nieces; nephews; and many close friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Adolph and Katherine; son, Don; sister, Mary; and brothers Joe, Frank and Tony. On June 6, 1928, Cordie was born near Mink Creek, MB; the second youngest of eight children. In her late teens, along with her sister, Elsie, Cordie moved to Winnipeg where she soon met and fell in love with Mel Bryce. They were married on September 3, 1949 and raised three children, Don, Lori and Tracy. Cordie was a loving and supportive friend to her grand-children in whom she took great joy. Cordie was a people person which was one of the reasons she enjoyed working at Metro Drugs for several years. In her humble way, she always put others ahead of herself. Family gatherings were very special for Cordie, often in the early years, hosting Christmas dinner for her sisters and their families. She loved to crochet and many friends and relatives possess her beautiful afghans. When asked how many she had made over the years, she replied, I lost count after 500 . Having a very strong faith was what helped Cordie through any adversity she faced in her life. As a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, she built strong friendships that would last throughout her lifetime. Cordie enjoyed games and puzzles including bridge, cribbage, scrabble and crosswords. For several years, she ran the Seniors Bridge Club held every Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul’s. During their retirement years, Mel and Cordie loved to travel throughout Canada and the U.S. including several trips to Las Vegas. Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2400 Portage Avenue. Our family would like to thank family and friends for the cards, thoughts and prayers. Thanks also to the team of 5 North Grace Hospital for their compassionate and tender care of Cordie during her last weeks. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, a donation may be made in Cordie’s memory to the charity of your choice. I believe in Angels, that they’re always hovering near…   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on May 01, 2012
