CATHERINE LOUISE VEZEY

December 15, 1940 ~ May 18, 2020

Catherine Louise Vezey, age 79, passed away peacefully May 17, 2020, due to complications arising from cancer.

Left to mourn her passing are her children:  Heather (Don), Blake (Larien), Valerie (Craig) and Jon (Shannon).  She was the proud grandmother to Chris, Justin, Chandler, Mackenzie, Finlay, Raine and Ben, who will miss her wicked laughter and inappropriate stories. Her loss will be grieved by sisters Jeannie (her twin), Eileen and her brother-in-law Gary, and Frances. Her husband Ken, her son Charlie and her brother Ed predecease Mum.

Cathy was born December 15, 1940 in Kakabeka Falls, Ontario, to Walter and Josephine Currie.

In 1957 she eloped with George Kenneth Vezey to settle in Oakville, Manitoba to raise her four children.

Mum was renowned as an amazing cook and baker.  She loved trading recipes or fiddling with a new dish until it was perfected.  It was her custom to distribute “dainties” to friends and family, especially during the holidays and many people looked forward to receiving a lovely package of pastries decorated with a Christmas bow from our mum.  The perfection of her butter tarts was legendary in the Portage area.

Mum put her skills as a cook to good use at her café in Oakville.  Later, she and her sister, Frances, open a hair salon in Portage.

A private celebration of Mum’s life and everything she meant to her family will be held at a later date, after the risks of COVID-19 pandemic have abated.  Her ashes will be interred at the Oakville Cemetery.
