CARL TORRANCE KUMMEN

Carl died peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Remaining to forever cherish his memory are children Maureen, Leon (Deb), Madelon (Greg), Rita (Ron), Richard (Kathleen), Garth (Cynthia), Pat (Kim), Nancy (Shaun) and Brendan; grandchildren Michelle (Matt), Conrad, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Blake, Kristen, Leo, Zoe, Alex, Max, and Cynthia’s children Chloe and Kyle, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Florence, his beloved wife of 53 years, parents Carl and Mary, siblings Emily, Alice, Harold and Marion, infant child Gabriel and grandsons Matt and Gavin.

Born in Winnipeg in 1921, Carl attended Kelvin High School and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1945 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. In the early 1950’s, he joined Kummen-Shipman Ltd., the family business. Carl married Florence in 1953 and together they raised their nine children in the Woodhaven area of Winnipeg.

Carl lived a full life.  He was cheerful, encouraging and supportive. These qualities, as well as his quiet dignity and gentlemanly approach to others will continue to inspire his children and grandchildren.

A family service was held on December 29, 2019. Interment to follow at a later date.

Thank you to the staff at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for the care Carl received during his stay there.
